Brief Profile

I have joined ICMR- NIN in May 2021 during the COVID Pandemic, as a Medical Scientist E and am Heading the Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition Division. I have started my research work at NIN with COVID Sero surveys and am currently pursuing research Systems Approach to combat all forms of malnutrition. I have completed MD in Community Medicine from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad (2004).

As a Surveillance Medical Officer at the World Health Organization for three years in North Telangana and Bihar, I led efforts in Acute Flaccid Paralysis surveillance, measles outbreak investigations, mass immunization campaigns, and strengthening routine immunisation. I identified silent Type 1 Wild Polio Virus circulation in a remote border village, which influenced vaccination strategies and contributed to polio elimination in India. These efforts helped achieve a 99.9% global reduction in polio, saving over 1.5 million lives and preventing paralysis in 18 million children.* This experience provided me with valuable hands-on expertise in public health implementation science.

Over the course of nine years, I served as a Professor of Community Medicine at the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, where I contributed to both academic and public health domains. In this role, I was actively involved as a medical officer in rural and urban health centers, managing diverse healthcare needs, including frontline work in COVID-19 isolation wards. I also contributed significantly to the medical education landscape, focusing on competency-based curriculum integrating family medicine, primary care and community medicine. This extensive involvement in research, education, and public health has provided me with a well-rounded understanding of the healthcare landscape, equipping me to address challenges in medical education, public health policy, and community healthcare implementation in India. Currently part of 9 research projects as PI and Co-PI
