DR. PHILIP RAJ ABRAHAM M.Sc., Ph.D., PDFSCIENTIST ‘C’ (Microbiology)MOLECULAR BIOLOGY |
---|
Dr. Philip Raj Abraham is a research professional with experience on Tuberculosis from Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi India, ICMR-National JALMA Institute for Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases Agra (during Ph. D) and DBT-Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad (Postdoctoral Research Associateships from ICMR and DBT). He also worked for ICMR-National AIDS Research Institute, Pune as Research Scientist/Microbiologist.
He joined ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC), Puducherry in July, 2018. He was heading the Unit of Molecular Epidemiology since June, 2021. His research areas were focused on diagnostics and operational research of Vector-Borne Diseases such as Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) and Dengue. Dr. Philip carried out extensive field work in Yadgir- Karnataka, Simdega-Jharkhand, Varanasi – Uttar Pradesh and Balasore – Odisha for filariasis related studies. As a part of the monitoring and evaluation study, he has coordinated the field work to know the prevalence of antigenemia and microfilaremia (funded by BMGF). Further, he has demonstrated that Ineligible population (I-Pop; Pregnant woman, children below 2 years and individual with chronic diseases) and elderly population (E-Pop; individual > 60 years) carry high prevalence of filarial antigen in LF endemic district, Yadgir. Also, he has evaluated the Brugia Rapid Test kits for detection of Brugian filariasis (funded by WHO). Dr. Philip explored the potential application of Dengue-NS1 antigen kits for detection of dengue virus infection in mosquito. He has developed novel assays for dengue such as, Enzyme Linked Lectin Assay (ELLA), Aptamer-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ALISA), Rabbit Polyclonal antibody Assay for Dengue (RPAD), Human Polyclonal antibody-based Assay for Dengue (HuPA-D), and Human Polyclonal antibody-based Assay for Filariasis (HuPA-F).
He has guided 10 M.Sc. Project students for Dissertation work. He is a recognized Ph. D. supervisor in Microbiology from the Pondicherry University and currently guiding a Ph. D Scholar.
Dr. Philip moved to ICMR-NIN, Hyderabad and currently working at the Molecular Biology Division. His research work is focused on nutritional aspects with respect to Tuberculosis, Filariasis and Dengue, exploring probiotic microorganism for nutrition and molecular studies on food-borne diseases.
