PhD in Biochemistry (Osmania University); Postdoctoral research at the Indian
Institute of Science, Bengaluru and Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland-
USA. Worked as ICMR, DBT and DHR Fellow at the University of Michigan (2005
and 2007) and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (2014), respectively.
His research is devoted to exploring on diverse facets of human nutrition ranging
from deriving nutrient requirements to evaluating nutrient deficiencies, understanding
the impact of food/nutrition on chronic diseases, and formulating dietary intervention
strategies. He also delves into age-related disorders, with a particular focus on
unraveling micronutrient-mediated molecular processes such as proteostasis and
fibrotic mechanisms. Moreover, he investigates protective effects of functional foods
and novel bioactive molecules. He reported the prevalence of micronutrient
deficiencies and identified the factors contributing to inadequate micronutrient
intakes. A major aspect of his research involves studying protein modifications by
non-enzymatic glycation and aldo-keto reductases under conditions of chronic
hyperglycemia. This research led to the discovery of novel bioactive molecules from
functional foods, culminating in the development of functional food formulations
targeting diabetes complications. Additionally, his research sheds light on protein
quality control mechanisms revealing insight into impaired ubiquitin-proteasome
system, ER stress, and autophagy in conditions such as muscle atrophy, retinal
degeneration, and neuronal cell death associated with obesity and diabetes.
