After receiving her Ph.D. in the area of Molecular & Cellular Biology from University of Hyderabad in 2006, she pursued postdoctoral research work at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Cambridge, UK (2006 – 2008) in the area of intracellular calcium signalling and calcium channels. She carried out further postdoctoral research at the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Imperial College London, UK on wide range of research activities starting from pancreatic β cell insulin secretion, glucose homeostasis, functional genomics of various mutations associated with early and late onset diabetes. Dr. Gargi joined ICMR Head Qtrs as Assistant Editor (Scientist ‘D’) of Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR), which is a peer-reviewed, international, monthly journal published by ICMR. During her tenure IJMR brought out several Special issues on important topics like smokeless tobacco, nutrition research, antimicrobial resistance surveillance system, cancer etc. In May 2016, she has moved to ICMR-NIN, Hyderabad and currently working as ScE in the Lipid Chemistry division. Her current research interests include early childhood growth and development, healthy gut microbiota for healthy metabolism, breastfeeding on infant gut flora. She is also involved in metabolomic studies on type 2 diabetes in urban thin and poor and glucose metabolism, and metagenomic studies looking into antimicrobial resistance transmission through gut microbial community. She is conducting several extramural and intramural research projects and keen on collaborative efforts in these areas.
